Bareboots to start. Kahtoolas went on somewhere around 3,000 ft ele. The higher you climbed, the more packed, granular snow was mixed in with the ice. Spikes stayed on all the way to the summit. When we were back in the trees just below the summit and out of the wind, we switched to hillsound spikes for the hike down and removed them somewhere around ~3,000 ft. Crampons went for a ride in my pack. We hit the summit just before sunrise and enjoyed watching the sun break over the peaks before we headed back down. It was a glorious morning and one I won't soon forget. |
