Comments
Comments: Our annual pre-holiday hike plans morphed several times with the new snowfall over icy conditions and we decided to break trail up Imp with the expectation of possibly making it to Middle Carter. Someone had hiked in about 50 yrds and turned around. We continued. What started as just over a foot of snow became closer to 2 feet and near 3 feet by the time we made it to Imp ledges. More snow at higher elevations. The 3 of us switched off breaking trail and short ups under dry conditions were a challenge with the deep snow. We were on snowshoes the entire time but considered switching to microspikes because of the effort to lift the heavy snow-filled shoe out of the snow to make the next step. We chose to stay on snowshoes. On our way down we noticed someone had followed our tracks with bare boots and turned around before we crossed paths. Their bare boot tracks messed up our nicely packed tracks. Please wear snowshoes in over 2 feet of new snow! Awesome day out for one of the hardest trail breaking treks we've done.
