The trails are perfectly packed for good traction with snowshoes on all the steep parts. Up high, the snow was fairly consolidated, so breaking trail over to Middle and West was actually not bad at all. Going to Middle I did a pretty poor job of following the herd path and went all around in a meandering path, but nothing was too thick to get through. Between Middle and West the herd path was more obvious, probably because the spine of the ridge was clear and the woods were more open. The rock at Peggy's Perch has no ice, just snow. It was easy enough to get up on the left side, and I went down through the trees on the right side of the rock, though I could have done it the other way around just as easily. Both canisters on Middle and West were frozen solid - not surprising after all the earlier rain. |
