Wore spikes the whole trip. Snowshoes went for a ride. I hiked Jackson to Pierce to Eisenhower. W-J trail to Jackson was well consolidated. Spikes work best as the trail is mostly too narrow for snowshoes. Good traction is necessary on the final approach to the Jackson summit. Jackson to Pierce would work with spikes or snowshoes. Same for Pierce to Eisenhower. Definitely spikes on Crawford Path from Pierce to the road as the trail is mostly frozen with no flat trailbed. Some limited ice and bare rock in the saddle and on the switchbacks up Eisenhower. |
