Comments
Comments: Ugh, postholio shredded Castleview trail and then headed down Mt Crescent trail thankfully. Please, please wear your snowshoes, it saves the trail and ur knees and ankles. Trail heading up towards the summit had 1 old set of tracks from several days ago that was only useful for finding the direction location of the trail into and outta various clearings. Got the delight of having to break the trail going both uphill and downhill as the snow was that delightful combo of hard to break crust layer with a deep unconsolidated layer of granular underneath when I broke thru the tough top layer. Getting up the scramble to the south viewpoint was rough and took 15 minutes for a tenth of a mile, oof wicked tough, I forgot how much snowshoes and scrambles don't coexist well. Steep section on the top of the Crescent Ridge Trail descent was brutally steep crusty hard snow that required forceful steps to get purchase with my snowshoe crampons due to somebody butt sliding. Come on people, this just turns the trail into a luge track, learn how to walk sideways will descending with ur snowshoes. Hoped to tag Carlton Notch, but wicked slow at 3 miles in 3.5 hours so still have the top 1 mile left to go cleanup later
