Great set of lesser known summits. Trails (or BW) tossed us a little bit of everything mostly due to excessively warm weather. Ice at the start on ST, but this gave way to patches and dry / wet trail that will likely be all wet tomorrow. At the wooden bridge, we started the Bushwhack.
We set a course straight up to Big Bickford, and switched from spikes to snowshoes soon after. Spectacular open woods the entire way including the stands of birches noted by others. Snow depths started patchy but soon rose to around 6-8" with higher elevations, and reaching around a foot on the summit with slight breakable crust. Great views to the east just past summit, although several peaks were in the clouds. Also found limited good views to the north from Scarface. Descending from Scarface, we briefly pressed through spruce in a direct line back to our earlier path and to ST. Afternoon snow was sticky as expected, so once at lower elevations in patchy 2-4" of snow, barebooting was the way to go.
