Comments
Comments: generally dry trail in the lower mile plus of airline. got wetter higher up, but no real snow to speak of below treeline. after that the trail was mostly bare with isolated patches of snow, some deep, to adams summit. many of the rocks on the cone were also wet and deceptively slick. more stetches of snow on gulfside down to the hut. osgood had only a couple small snow patches up to the summit. valley way had relatively continuous snow cover and some ice above the tent site spur. only small patches below that then a mix of wet and dry trail back to the trailhead.
barebooted all but the section of valley way from treeline to the campsite spur. used microspikes for that section. light wind protection was nice today. with the warm temps a full jacket would have been too much.
nice day to get above treeline. temps were warm and winds were generally not too bad. some impressive gusts coming out of king ravine along durand ridge and some "bump you around" wind high on madison. winds were coming just about opposite of the standard northwest direction so adams provided protection for much of the day and the usual reprieve on madison was the windiest section. got to spend some time with the madison moose which was really neat. quiet up there today. saw only two other folks up high on adams. great to be out.
