Comments
Comments: Smarts Mtn: up Ranger, down Lambert Ridge, RGoH, party of 9. Ranger Trail was a heinous wet mess, with water running down much of the lower half of the trail, ice, slush, mud, blowdowns, bare rocky patches. Beyond the brook crossing it was 6" deep snow with awkward, frozen postholes on the flats; on the steeps before the trail junction a lot of icy ledge and bare patches. Lambert Ridge had significant ice patches on the upper summit cone ledges beyond the trail junction; the lower ledges were mostly barren and dry with a scattering of snow & few ice patches. About 6" hard snow on upper parts of the mountain, all packed out. Firetower was crusted over with rime. No good footwear choices with conditions like this.
