Comments
Comments: just 1-2 inches of snow, and very hard packed with just a few icy spots. 60/40 split of those wearing spikes vs bare-booting; 3 of us did spikes starting at hairpin curve, the other guy forgot his but managed fine including on descent. We did not walk across the lake despite others saying they did so, as there’s a section of open water to the north end of the lake near the Cannonballs, and one of us didn’t like the looks of it. Also we observed a couple walking way off the middle footpath across the lake, more toward the Basin Cascades side, and after stopping they started heading very slowly back toward the middle. Couldn’t tell if something was wrong but made me nervous, much as I wanted a picture of us on the lake.

We’re not snowmobilers but in past years I thought the bike path was the snowmobile track and thus the left parking lot was often closed to allow snowmobiles to pass. That was not the case today as there was a pole blocking access at the south end of the lot, but maybe I missed something.

Pristine skies, no wind and yahoo my injured knee held out. Maybe the beautiful views restored it once more.
