Another spectacular winter day with bright sunshine and no wind.
Trails were packed down and wore Hillsound Trail Crampons the entire way. Some sections of ice.
Saw one ice climber hiking down the trail who reported that conditions were poor for climbing at Pitcher Falls so he came back. Actual water running in areas that are usually completely iced over this time of the year. Hiking over to Middle Sister via the cutoff trail saw deeper snow with some post holes from recent warmer weather. Snowshoes would not have been helpful. Amazing views from Middle Sister and continued on Middle Sister Trail to the First Sister sub peak with fantastic views of Mount Chocorua and could see a few hikers standing on the summit. Saw only one other hiker planning on sumitting Mount Chocorua on our way down in the afternoon 3 hikers going to the falls. |
