Comments
Comments: Bony low and lotta everyones favorite the semi stable breaks 1 outta every 10 steps black and blue ice, yay! Trail does a weird circle down low to go around private property, few blazes of which many are extremely faded with path signs and arrows at key turns, lotta little turns in semi open intermediate generation hardwoods, this area likely got logged 10-25 years ago, so pay attention to the trail. Wow does this get wicked steep quick with 1600' of ascent in the last 1.4 miles to the summit, easy to follow and enough snow to have most of the rocks buried, larger roots and rocks still in play for toe kicking so be warned. Trail is easier to follow with newer blazes from here up to the summit could use a sign denoting Owls Head Trail at the junction with Marthas Mile. The scramble down off the summit towards Martha was decently spicy, instead of wicked spicy with enough snow atop the ice to get grip and lotta trees and roots for hand and foot holds to climb up and down. Decent bit of drifting, had to break about 2" of snow on the trip over to Martha, bit more dust on crust action. Descent down Owls Head was uneventful and even tho the trail reminds me a bit of Tremont, the steepness was only really a challenge on the ascent
