 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Gate was opened when we drove in at 8:10am, road was plowed but icy in places and since it was snowing we had to take it slow. We parked at the Unknown Pond Trailhead, which was plowed to hold at least 10+ cars. |
|
 | Surface Conditions: |
Ice - Black, Wet Trail, Ice - Blue, Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Wet/Slippery Rock |
|
 | Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes, Light Traction |
|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
All water crossings were easy stream crossings with few challenges. The ice is thin in certain places so be cautious, but no crossings required too much effort. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
A few trees across the trail in various places but nothing too crazy. |

 | Lost and Found: |
There was a hat on the trail sign in the Bunnell Notch Trail parking lot. Black, wool beanie style hat. I did not grab it and as far as I know is still there. |

 | Comments: |
All trails were broken in despite clearly not receiving heavy traffic. Snowshoes would be nice on the Unknown Pond trail and for the first sections of Bunnell Notch but we used Microspikes the whole way and that worked well. Beautiful day all day with light snow falling almost the whole time we were out. Did not see another hiker all day. The Horn spur was icy towards the top and required a little extra attention to foot placements and such but besides that we experienced no real problems with the conditions. |
