 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
There's a new parking area at the end of Longmarsh Rd. in Durham, built by the landowner. This allows for more spaces and gets the parking a little further away from their house. Thank you! |

Several large blowdowns along Sweet Trail. The one 1.2 mi. in has crashed down on the trail in spectacular fashion. There are broken bog bridges along Sweet and Green trails. One large blowdown on Blue Trail, and another on Channel Loop. |

Sweet Trail in Durham end-to-end and then back again, plus the five marked side trails, for a walk of 12.2 mi.
Not a single flake of snow was seen as Weird Winter continues. All of these trails were quite wet in places though with some minor scattered flooding. The hike started in a light rain shower. Mud was not consistent but there was plenty.
I walked north to south directly to gather some fresh data on Sweet Trail. One the way back I checked out the five marked side trails. Only Jeff's Hill Loop and Channel Loop are officially named and signed; the others go by their blaze colors. The long boardwalk on Green Trail takes some care as some of the boards are floating and others are broken. Water is high here. Beyond this point there is another impressive beaver dam.
The morning started quiet but by midday I crossed paths with several others who were out enjoying the unusual January weather. |
