I removed 7 blowdowns (I am the trail adopter). There is an 8th: it is 0.2 miles below the start of the East Ledges as approached clockwise. It is just above my head in a steep section and is very large; it is too complicated for me to remove so I emailed Bailey with the Saco District. It is stable.
Drainages are all draining; this was gratifying to see after all of that work last fall.
Some people are using our new relocation on the east side (it bypasses the muddy section). In the spring I will reblaze the east side of the trail and should be able to help everyone stay out of the mud! |

I hiked clockwise. Microspikes were fine from the parking lot to the loop junction. I went east (left) and immediately donned my snowshoes as that side gets less traffic and more sun and was mushy. Not everyone is using our new relocation to avoid the mud; if you see a muddy section and you are cursing the trail gods, look uphill and you will see a wonderful and non muddy relocation. I didn’t get time to blaze it before the winter but will do so in the spring and it will be more obvious.
I wore snowshoes until just below the east ledges and then it got icy and I switched back to microspikes for the rest of the hike.
The trail is in good shape with mostly snow and ice, and just a few bony parts.
