Comments: YOU NEED PERMISSIN FROM LAND OWNER TO HIKE DALTON PEAK.

An earlier published trail report contains info to contact them for permission, including more details on the area, hiking trails and parking. Owners are very friendly, and like hikers visiting, after getting permission. We bumped into them at the summit of Dalton, and they were a wealth of information regarding views, and all the work that went into developing the trails and caring for the wonderful piece of property. Views are outstanding, incredible, and worth the effort getting to see them. We were treated to views into VT, and an expansive vista of the white mtns (from Moose to Crawford Notch). Plus, the summit of Dalton boasts the biggest cairn I have ever seen.

We also hiked over the Spruce Knob, also on the property. This peak also has great views to the north up to Dixville, and a slightly different vista of the whites including the presies.

From Spruce Knob, we bushwhacked to the Dalton Mtn North peak. Woods was for the most part relatively open. We found a few herd paths and skidder roads to follow for short stretches', including a small slatted bridge. Once on the ascent up to the summit, we followed the service road to the tower, then another short BW behind the dish to the high point and jar.

Over all conditions were pretty much the same everywhere, icy crust over 1-3 inches of snow. Few patches of water, but easy to avoid. Easy traveling. And lots of critter prints frozen in the snow, especially coyote and deer, as usual.
