Comments: Fabulous views from a windy and cold summit, but wow what ice! We donned spikes at the trailhead after the 0.7 mi road walk and kept them onto the car. Thick ice flows in several places made me wish I had my hillsounds, although they would’ve been a nuisance near the summit on the windswept ledge. Herd paths in packed snow circumnavigated the worst but on descent it got a bit tedious. - Apparently quite a few people have a higher tolerance for icy footing than I do, as we were lapped by at least six barebooters including two in tennis shoes.

So windy at the summit that stayed for a minute’s worth of pictures and descended, but the pristine view of George, the Franconia Ridge, Moose, Ascutney, and more treated us on the way down. In seeing only one descender pass us as we ascended Winslow I take it everybody today did the loop with Barlow. This year’s freeze-thaw cycle meant running water beneath some ice on both trails. I did punch through and got my boot wet up to the ankle on descent of Barlow but thankfully the Salomons held watertight. Enjoyed brilliant pinkness as we walked the road back to the car, just as a local was ascending for his daily walk up to watch the sunset.
