Parking/Access Road Notes: Smarts Mountain Trailhead is an ice sheet. Spikes are helpful in getting out of your car. Sandwich Mountain Trailhead is less icy and more snow covered.

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Spikes helped for Drakes Brook crossing. All others were easy. 
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Counted around 20 blowdowns on Smarts Brook Trail, many of which are in the uppermost mile. All looked to be handsaw jobs except for one big ‘un.

Comments: Dodged today’s yucky sleet and freezing rain. Yay!
Spikes up Sandwich Mountain Trail.
Snowshoes for upper Smarts Brook Trail - smoothed out some choppy boot prints for
1.5 to 2 miles.
Spikes the rest of the way down.
Old Waterville Road - spikes all the way.
