Comments
Comments: Tough conditions on Mt. Roberts Trail this morning and the most difficult ascent I've ever had here. An icy crust over deep snow made snowshoeing strenuous and very slow. If you are visiting soon, snowshoes are essential! There is a lot of snow here and the trail is not yet consolidated enough for spikes or bare boots.

The not so good:

+ The previous snowshoe track had been heavily post-holed (and then frozen) up to the sharp turn onto the south ridge. Beyond there the trail was untouched. I did as much as one person can do as far as breaking trail. Some pretty deep drifting on and above the ridge.
+ Unfortunately, much of the effort was negated as a few other folks came up after me without 'shoes. To their credit, it looks like everyone else who was out there turned back at some point. But, the trail was left in very rough shape.

The good:

+ It was a beautiful day with mostly sunny skies, great views, and almost no wind.
+ I probably lost a couple pounds with all the effort.
+ I didn't have a heart attack from all the effort.
+ Despite the conditions, I got up and down safely to hike another day.
