Summer lot was unplowed. The winter lot was not plowed when we arrived but was when we finished. The public lot next to the gas station was plowed. We parked there. |

We parked next to the gas station and made the short road walk to the trail. At the end of Starr King Road, we put on our snowshoes. We were pleasantly surprised to find the trail broken for the first mile. We met up with the 2 women who has begun the trail breaking and took over, breaking out to Starr King and Waumbek. We chose not to break out to the overlook past the summit of Waumbek since there were no views today. On the descent we encountered 4 others in snowshoes packing things down and Farmer John rototilling the trail in full crampons with MSRs on his back. We smoothed things out as best we could. The snow is still fresh and with the warmer temps, snowshoes are the way to go. |
