 | Water Crossing Notes: |
There’s a decent snow bridge on the first crossing that was unstable in a couple places due to lack of weight distribution (not wearing snowshoes). After tonight’s freeze it should be fine for those wearing snowshoes. A very nice bridge on the second crossing that we used on the way up was found partially destroyed on the way down, but was hoppable. |

Glorious day to be out and packing down the trails. It looked like someone broke out the trail yesterday and another packed it down today. About 2.7-3 miles in it became clear someone was post holing pretty bad and not until we got to the ledges did we realize some poor person’s snowshoe binding broke. However we later found they wound up fixing it with medical tape - like a boss! It was still slow going as we tried to pack the trail down as much as we could. The scramble is all filled in and an easy peasy walk (in snowshoes) on up. We got to the summit to find a couple that had come up from Bangor St. She said folks started up at 5:30 to break it out and no one on that trail was without snowshoes so it was very flat with no post holes. On our return trip, we ran into a very nice couple from Switzerland wearing only microspikes. The trail was pretty torn up in their wake until we ran into the medical tape snowshoe crew who smoothed it out again. Thanks to all those who flattened the trail and thanks to the original trail breakers!
If you choose to not wear snowshoes you can expect post holing up to your knee with every step (up to your hip or even chest in a couple select areas) starting around 2.7 - 3 miles in. It gets worse on the ledges due to drifting.
Someone broke out the carter moriah trail headed south towards imp. |
