Comments
Comments: Started the day barebooting, spikes could have gone on once we started hitting the elevation but we opted to stay with no spikes. Trail was difficult at points getting to Avalon as butt sledding has done a number. After Avalon the trail is fairly well off, monorail is in good shape and we opted to continue barebooting. Once we reached the summit of field we opted for snowshoes as it had been consistently snowing throughout the day and wind was causing some heavy drifts. It looked as though no one had been out to Willey but we were wrong, passed about 8 people coming back, all in spikes. Drifting was so bad today by the time we turned to go back to Field 6-10 inch drifts had formed in the 30 mins since we passed through and the trail looked untouched. We continued in snowshoes to the Tom spur and up and down. We opted to switch out of snowshoes on the decent as the trail was torn up and made for less enjoyable snowshoeing. If going out tomorrow I would recommend snowshoes, the trail was still rather soft, has some fresh snow from today and possibly tonight, and there will likely be heavy drifting.
