Clockwise loop of the Carters today. Trail is getting packed down nicely but still not supportive enough as I saw one set of postholing bare boot prints headed up Imp trail where they punched thru waist deep in spots to running water or spruce traps. Heading up Carter Dome from Zeta pass there was a perfect trough but then then snow and wind picked up and most of my path was completely drifted in 20 minutes later on the return back to Zeta pass. The upper section of Carter Dome trail was starting to drift in pretty heavily as well, hiding most of the trough. Snowshoes will definitely be a must, especially up in the higher elevations where the trail is now drifted in. |
