beautiful morning hike. Snowshoes car to car.
Took Avalon up to Field, WRT over to A-Z Trail, out and back to Tom then down.
Great snow coverage, only a few areas had rocks down low.
The steeps going up Avalon were smoothed out by butt sledders, but the snowshoes had no issues getting bite, however if we get a thaw / freeze cycle this could become sketchy.
WRT and A-Z were pretty chewed up the bareboot brigade. It looks like most churned their way up A-Z & WRT to Field, then slid down Avalon, although there were a few chutes on the way down A-Z.
I'd recommend being careful sliding down Avalon- there are still a few icy rocks that aren't quite covered and one nice little stub of a stump in the middle of the trail. I only noticed it because my pup's leash got tangled on it. I'd hate to catch that in the exhaust pipe if I was a butt sledder...
The clouds were high enough that I could see Washington and the Presis from the Field lookout despite some minor fog hanging around. Some breeze on the summits, but it wasn't too bad. Surprisingly there weren't many people out, we saw less than 10 all morning.
