Comments
Comments: We wore snowshoes from the start which was the best idea. There was about 1-2 inches of fresh powder over the previously packed down snowshoe track. The vast majority of hikers on the trails only had microspikes and did not have snowshoes. From the trailhead and then going up the Avalon Trail the trail was in decent stable condition, but on Willey Range Trail and then coming down the A-Z trail the post holing was really bad and destabilized the established snowshoes track which made the descent harder than it needed to be. The summit cairns for both Mt. Field and Mt. Tom were covered with snow.
