 | Comments: |
Six on the summit today. Two of us in snowshoes. Four others in spikes. The lower section of the Ammonoousuc Trail was fairly consolidated, suitable for spikes or snowshoes. The steep sections up to the hut were slick from butt sledders and were easier with snowshoes. Aggressive traction/crampons would work well also. Spikes would work, but with extra effort.
Lots of drifting and no easily discernible track just below the hut. Any route will do as the snow is well frozen and crusty. Crawford path was also hard frozen, windswept crust. Monroe Loop to the summit cone was completely drifted. I kicked a path into the drifted side slope. That will be gone tonight. The summit was windswept frozen crust.
With additional snow coming, snowshoes are recommended. |
