Comments
Comments: Two of us hiked today. Started off with micro spikes but switched to snowshoes after about 1/2 mile. Snowshoes were essential with very deep, crusty, powdery snow. Only one other hiker in front of us since last week's storm. Now the trail is pretty smooth but the snow is still powdery so bare boots will posthole. Lots of fluffy marshmallow snow on the trees, especially closer to the summit/fire tower. Gorgeous! 4-6" of icy-snow crusted on the fire tower steps --- we only went 1/2 way up since it was so slippery. Views from the top of the fire tower would have been epic but we got high enough to appreciate the 360 degree views.
Moose tracks + poop, deer tracks, grouse tracks, pine sisken.
Great hike!... our stats: 7.5 miles, 2398' elev gain, total time 5hr, 15 min.
