With temps in the high teens, sunny skies, and almost no wind most of the day, we hit the groomed Carriage Trail in our spikes. This made for a great warm up as we were seven people making our way to the Red Trail & White Trail Loop over Belknap Mountain on this weather perfect day. Once this Mone mile plus winter uphill March we made our way over to the Red Trail. On went the shoes as the trail was not broken out. We did that for every today through a very crusty, over powder trail this morning taking turns all the way. More snowshoe travel is required to make this a beautiful compacted winter ascent on this great mountain in the Blecknaps. Let me tell you, they got lots of snow. After a sunny lunch on the summit, we descended via BRT all the way White Trail is spike or snowshoe country all the way back to Carriage Rd. Two magnificent outlooks on the White Trail are not to be missed…the views of surrounding mountains and valleys are outstanding. |
