Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parked at the Basin. The only car in the lot. Saw no other hikers all day.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes, Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The one larger water crossing was not easy today. Rocks were covered in ice and snow and the snow bridges were not supportive. The river was deep and running strong. One boot slipped through the ice but luckily my gaiter kept my foot dry. After the upcoming extreme cold temperatures, the ice bridges should start forming again.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Liberty Springs trail is in great shape. A couple of blowdowns on trail that were easy to step over.

Comments
Comments: Liberty Springs is well packed and the snow is firm. Snowshoes or microspikes both are fine. Snowshoe televators are helpful on the very steep sections. There was an inch of new powder on the top of a well packed trail. The Franconia Ridge trail at the junction heading to Haystack is not broken out. Trail heading to Flume is in good shape. Snow is softer up on the ridge with a couple of inches of new powder, so snowshoes would be the better choice. Views were incredible on the summit and there was very little wind.
