From the parking lot to the trailhead, it is well packed. We donned our mirco spikes and continued up 2.3 miles, where we had to switch out to snowshoes. The first stretch from the trailhead was a mix of snowshoe tracks and a bare booter. The postholes were not too deep for the most part, but it did require focus so you didnt get tripped up. At the 2.3 mile mark both sets of tracks stopped. Someone had broken out the length of the trail around 1/15, according to All Trails, but no one had gone beyond the 2.3 mile point since then. We were a team of 4, snowshoeing through 8-12 inches of unbroken powder and made decent time up to the ridge. The slabs on the Centennial Trail had plenty of snow and were easy to traverse. Less snow was found in the open spaces on the ridge. The blazes were not always visible, so be sure to have navigation. The ledges were a thin layer of snow with a crusty, icy surface. Definitely want to pay attention with your footing. Views were amazing. Would recommend both micro spikes and snowshoes. |
