| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
A resident came out of his house and told me that parking in the plowed out area at the end of the Bangor St, even on the left coming in, is not allowed, so I parked at the plowed out area at the snowmobile crossing of Bangor St, as he suggested. Not sure I believe him , as there was no official no parking signage, but it was only a two minute walk from the Snowmobile parking area to the trailhead to oblige him, so I did so. |

| Comments: |
The Carter-Moriah trail was well packed from trailhead to summit, with no post-holing evident. The trench was the width of two snowshoes, was flat-bottomed, and packed so hard that a set of recent bare boot prints were less than an inch deep. I wore snowshoes for the entire hike, but two couples that passed me were wearing both spikes and having no problems, and although they were creating a bit of chop, they were not post-holing at all. The consistency of the snow gave excellent grip for my Flex Alp snowshoes, both up, and down, even the steepest sections. Contrary to the weather forecasts there was only a very mild breeze, and the temperature was 20F, on the summit at 12:30pm. There is a really nice view of the Presis (Monroe to Madison) from the ledges, but I still prefer the Stony Brook approach to Moriah. |
