Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Sunday, February 5, 2023
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: 2 other vehicles in lot upon our fashionably late 9:45am arrival. (I mean why get up at 4am if we're driving only 45 minutes from home?:-) Lot full upon our return.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow/Ice - Postholes
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Narrow and mostly iced over.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: A couple blowdowns, mostly white pines. Barely on trail, so easily circumvented.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Plenty of canines. One group of 8 had 7 or 8 pooches. All pooches and owners well behaved and very friendly.
Bugs
Bugs: Nope. Winter hiking is just awesome.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Nothing seen.

Comments
Comments: Started out just as NOAA predicted with cloud cover and a hint of sun. Over the course of our short journey, clouds gradually gave way to sun, blue skies with and cloud here or there. Definitely clear in the Southern tropics of NH but looked far more cloudy up any glance North.

Trail was well packed. Encountered just a few minor postholes now and then. Microspikes were more than adequate. A few bits ice across the trail, and minor open frozen mud patches lower down in wet areas, but nothing concerning.

Ran into 1 trail runner appeared to be working towards 4th ascent. And other 15 souls. Most if not all were having a good day.

Great day on the mountain. Doesn't get any better.
