Trail was a bit sloppy at times, namely on the Peaked Mountain side. Snowshoes wouldn't have been too much help since the snow was so hard [mountain snowshoes such as MSRs or Flex Alps would be recommended in that case], but micro spikes were a must. I did opt to recommend snowshoes in the equipment because I imagine as the surface softens up in the coming days they will be preferred coming down from Peaked. The connector from peaked to Black Cap is lightly broken out, but everything else was good and packed. I really liked Middle Mountain, but towards the top there is an awkwardly angled section of very slick and hard ice. But, again, as we move out of the negative temps I see this softening up just fine for micro spike travel. Overall I'd say this is a great loop (especially for this time of the year, because the caterpillar chewing noises in the summer are intense) to take up 2-3 hours of your day, a nice 5 minutes away from downtown if that's your style too.
