Comments
Comments: I decided to hike Mt Tom and Mt Field but not Willey (2 out 3 ain't bad) because it guarantees easy grades and a quick hike through the woods with some good views.
The path is very compacted snow that prevents postholing. MicroSpikes provided excellent traction on today's surface. One can use snowshoes if preferred. There are some shallow boot holes to the margins or adjacent to the snowshoe track. No damage to the main track.
The cairns on the summits of Mt Tom and Mt Field are both buried below the snow surface. The path at the top of Mt Tom extends beyond the summit to a good viewpoint of the Twins, Guyot, and the Bonds. The snowpack provides enough height to permit this view that is not visible in the non-snow season. There are a couple of other tracks to viewpoints toward the Presidentials that bears right (on ascent) before reaching the summit. Also, excellent views off Mt Field to both the Presidential Range and to the Franconia Range.
Gray Jays on Mt Tom.
Met several other hikers. Chatted with Georg from Mt Field to the Field-Tom col.
