Trail to pitcher falls is in beautiful shape. Passed the loop intersection, or passed pitcher falls on the loop, not so much. The trail is well broken, but not by snowshoes. The track was thin and lumpy, which made for a tiring day on the lower legs. We didn't bother with snowshoes since it was far to frozen to fix and would have been hell trying to use them. Once on the ridge, snow is thin or very hard packed. The final climb to the summit is a little nerve wracking if you are easily frightened, but I thought it was completely safe. Some other hikers did feel more comfortable with an ice axe. I put on my micros above treeline and left them on until returning to the car. We did see one couple with snowshoes on at the first loop intersection, headed up as we were finishing. Overall, great day out. |
