The goal today was a hike to the hut. We made the dodo decision to leave the snowshoes in the car. The trail is solidly packed, as long as you don’t step too far to either side, and until the final approach to the hut/wildcat junction. Just after passing the no camping, etc w/in vicinity of hut there was drifting across the trail that caused 1 in our party to posthole up-to their hip. Looking up the trail it was blown over enough that staying on stable ground was a guessing game and so we turned around. Regardless it was great to be out today. Saw only 1 other heading back from the hut- clearly lighter on his feet than us. And as we were heading out a saw fresh set of snowshoe tracks that turned around prior to us. |
