Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Although water is about as low as it can be, water crossings were dicey. I hit some slippery black ice at the shallow crossing on the Pemi East Side Trail. Crossing North Fork twice was challenging as well.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Usual blowdowns along Thoreau Falls Trail. Washouts on Pemi East Side will probably be around for the duration!!!!

Comments
Comments: This hike was primarily geared towards exploration of the west side of the North Fork (west of the current Thoreau Falls trail). I took an immediate left at the washout/stream just past the lower Thoreau Falls Trail bridge. Found a very WIDE crossing of the North Fork at the junction of the Pemi River. Only got feet a little wet (I was wearing trail runners/sneakers). Bushwhacking the ~2 miles north was relatively easy except for the swamps - occasionally open woods and nice views of the North Fork. I found some cool falls in there with glacial potholes - NEAT! I had LOTS of fun in that beautiful area.

Along the way, I found lots of fire rings and the old TFT trail on the west side of the North Fork and the plaque marking the crash site where the survivors then died of exposure :(. Found a decent crossing of the North Fork near Jumping Brook, but, it was still dicey!!! Then, had some trouble finding Thoreau Falls Trail again on the east side of the North Fork, but, found some neat beaver swamps.

After that I took the trail to Thoreau Falls - nobody there :) and AWESOME views, as usual!!!! I jogged the trails back to my bike near the wilderness boundary. It was GREAT to run into J&J on the trails and catch up. An AWESOME day out there with COMPLETELY awesome solitude!!!! Above 2000' there was a nice dusting of sugary snow - PRETTY!!!!
