Spikes on the way up, snowshoes on the way down.
Hard packed single snowshoe track this morning, it was fine for microspikes with no sinking. A little ways below the summit on the way down we switched to snowshoes as we descended into softer snow, mashed potatoes in spots, so snowshoes the smart choice.
Saw three people all day, all solo, two with snowshoes, one bare booter.
Endless blue skies and views. Summit view north to a glowing white Mt. Washington and presies and a whole lot more. False summit has great views of Ossipee Lake and into Maine, and Big Dan Hole Pond below, and across Winni to Gunstock.
Gorilla Trail over to Mt. Shaw was not broken out as of noon today. |
