Comments
Comments: Ever since finishing the Appalachian Trail and being able to doing 12-15 miles easily with a noonish start, I've had negative motivation for starting anything resembling early on these medium length gridding days, especially when solo like I was today. Lotta postholes on Blueberry Ledges Trail, and the trail is badly mangled and postholed below the McCrillis Path jct, and only marginally better up higher thanks to barebooters seen descending who likely shredded the bottom half of the trail. The ledges were mostly packed snow with a medium amount of postholes on the edges which were extremely soft. Rollins Trail was decently choppy with some postholes but had enough snowshoe traffic and some buttsliding activity along with a combo of semi broken drifts and crusty frozen granular. Diceys Mill Trail is a mangled mess thanks to the many barebooters noted in the post from this morning by a fellow gridder. The steep last scramble up to the west viewpoint right below the summit had a good deal of blue ice and there were a couple sporadic patches on Rollins Trail. Spikes car to bottom of lower ledges below the top jct w/Blueberry Ledge Cutoff, snowshoes to stream crossing on Diceys Mill Trail, spikes from here to car, snowshoes are needed due to the mashed potatoes fest created by the warm temps and sun today and with the recent melt/freeze event the last couple days adding yet another unstable crust on dust layer atop a snowpack stacked by a multitude of these layers, thus great conditions for postholes and the deep nasty kind that eat ankles and knees. Roadwalk has lots of ice , would recommend spikes on for the road
