Comments
Comments: Started hike at 6:30 to take advantage of cool temps and a more supportive snow surface.
From parking lot, headed NW on Lower Sheep Farm Rd - ungroomed but snomoed. Approx 1 mile later, turned N on groomed snomo trail. Approx 1 mile later, at a 90-degree turn on the snomo trail, we continued straight on a rogue snomo path 0.2 mile to a logging yard. Started bw to Thompson summit in a SW direction. Wide open woods, ideal supportive surface conditions, and easy/moderate grades soon brought us to the recognized high point. From summit, headed SW in wide open woods, moderately steep grades, and mostly supportive surface conditions. We managed to skirt rocky/ledgy outcrops. We hit the Middle Trail snomo trail a bit E of a snomo trail jct.
Started bw to Pollard in a W direction through flattish stick woods. Soon crossed another groomed snomo trail and entered scratchy woods that deteriorated into a sprucy band that had all the markings of a spruce trap hell. Fortunately surface conditions continued to be mostly supportive. The more difficult woods conditions lasted approx 0.3 mile. Once through the flat terrain the woods became wide open again. Nice surface conditions and easy grades continued to the recognized summit. Followed our tracks back to the Middle Trail snomo trail that we followed SE and then NE back to Lower Sheep Farm Rd. Snow conditions on the snomo trail we’re getting mushy in the sun
