The plan was out and back to Jefferson via Jewell and Gulfside, but the weather was spectacular and the footing was terrific so after Jefferson, I headed to Washington.
Once the sun hit the trails the footing was really grippy. Anything you chose was the correct footwear. I went up to Jefferson, and over and up to Washington in light traction. I changed into full crampons for the descent from Washington and down Jewell to treeline and then snowshoes for the rest of the Jewell descent. There was minimal postholing, except in the drifted areas.
Lots and lots of hikers today, and two Grid-ers finished their Grids! We all had time to stand around and gab, because the sun was warm and there was no wind!
Happy hiking, folks! |
