Comments
Comments: A great day for this slog-a-rama. And many other hikers agreed. Sunny day and mild temps. The trail from Ammo to Washington is mostly hard packed snow. We used spikes to the beginning of the steeps up ammo and switched to snowshoes with televators all the way to the summit of the Rock Pile. No 127 mph winds or minus 108 windchill on Monroe or Washington today. Still air, sunny and warm temps. Great views all around. I used snowshoes until I crossed the Cog rail and switched to microspikes for the hike over to Jefferson and then back to the parking lot. The hike over to Jefferson was ice, snow, rock, slush, repeat with a majority of pretty good trail overall. There was a slight breeze on the side of Clay which was a bit refreshing but again no wind on the summit, just great views and sunny skies. Jewell trail was hardpacked snow once you reached the trees and it was solid enough for my solo spikes. Snowshoes would probably be the better choice and not sure what a herd of booters would do to the trail. Great to see all the hikers and some familiar faces.
