First time writer, long time reader. I wore snowshoes the whole out and back. Microspikes would have been fine for the Greeley Ponds Trail section. Greeley Ponds Trail had 2-3 inches of fresh uncompacted snow besides some fox tracks. I probably should have switched to my crampons on the steep sections on the Mount Osceola Trail but I found that I had just enough grip in my snowshoes to feel secure. I did do some step-kicks to be safe on a short section or two. I went up the bypass on the way up the chimney and down the bypass to the bypass on the way down. There were quite a few snow drifts between East Osceola and Osceola so I would bring snowshoes until that gets compacted. |
