 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
As mentioned by other users, the "Lonesome Lake Trailhead" parking lot has been closed to cars for the season, though there is limited parking along the road next to the trailhead. I parked across Route 93 in the "Falling Waters Trailhead" lot. There is a pedestrian tunnel under the highway that takes you right to the "Lonesome Lake Trailhead". |

 | Comments: |
There were a lot of people out on the trail today. I passed two groups of ~10 hikers on the "Lonesome Lake" trail, and a number of smaller groups on Fishin Jimmy and Kinsman Ridge. As a result, the snow was very well compacted. Almost everyone I passed was wearing MICROspikes. A few people had snowshoes on [real winter hikers]. I saw one person on "Lonesome Lake" trail with just boots, no traction.
The Lonesome Lake was completely frozen with a thick layer of snow on top so that you could not even see the ice. I crossed the lake with no problem, following the lead of dozens of footprints that were already there.
The temperature was just above freezing at the base and in the low 20s at the summit.
There were a couple icy spots on Fishin Jimmy, but that was about it.
Clear day with beautiful views! |
