Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: 19 Mile was already filling up at 730am, and a complete zoo by 1030am. A bit of space by the Camp Dodge entrance, but on black ice.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Ice - Breakable Crust, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular, Snow - Drifts, Snow/Ice - Postholes
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes, Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: A few are getting tricky, the bridges are failing or gone. The one near the bottom if Imp takes some work, as does the one halfway between the junction of 19 Mile/Carter Dome and Zeta Pass. A few stretches of Imp are over running water and getting sketchy.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Still a lot of blowdowns and leaners -- just the right height to pull the snowshoes off your pack when you go under. Trails could use a winter haircut -- branches everywhere.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Laika was thrilled to find some real snow for a change; lots of other friendly and well behaved floofs. Running water easily accessible along the trails.
Bugs
Bugs: No, but the ticks are already back down low... :-(

Comments
Comments: After a solid night's freeze the trails had set up solid and were in great shape. 19 Mile to Carter Dome Trail all the way to Zeta pass was nicely packed with very few postholes. Microspikes all the way as long as things stay cold and solid. Edges very soft, but not too deep until you get up above 4K'. Carter-Moriah N from Zeta was less traveled, but still firm enough that the snowshoes could stay packed -- trail is hard to find in places, stay alert. North Carter Trail also solid and in good shape. Imp is a bit beat up w/ lots of frozen footprints, thin cover, and spots over streams where you'll need to pay attention not to crash thru to running water.
