Comments
Comments: It was a beautiful day for franconia ridge today, so I started with a sunrise on mount liberty. There is now a sign marking the herd path from the bike path to liberty springs! Liberty springs was frozen solid. There was some blue ice under a thin layer of snow. The franconia ridge from liberty springs to flume was similar (I did an out and back to flume). The franconia ridge from liberty springs to little haystack was in pretty rough shape. There were trees down everywhere and low hanging branches slapping me in the face. The trail was pretty unstable and covered in postholes. I found it most efficient to wear snowshoes on this section. When I reached little haystack, I switched to crampons but I would probably have been mostly fine in microspikes. Greenleaf and old bridle path were solidly packed and not very icy. Microspikes were fine for the descent from lafayette.
