Cooper and Piper had a blast, as usual. The trail is very easy for them except the steeper rocky section near the summit. Piper found a bypass to the left that was used by all due to the ice flows on the ledge. There were several locations with open, flowing water for the pups to grab a drink. |

 | Comments: |
Spikes were all that was needed today since the snow was well packed. Walked up the plowed entrance road to the Richie Green trail head (road was more ice than snow). The trail was packed, but lightly traveled, with numerous shallow postholes and blazed in yellow. Since the trail was packed and hard, snowshoes were not needed. The only tricky section was the ledge near the summit, which was covered in ice flows with a dusting of snow. I managed to ascend by holding the roots, etc. However, it seemed safer to use a bypass just to the south side of the ledge for both ascent and descent. Once above this section the trail passes through a sprucy forest to the look out ledge with fantastic views (180 degree to the east). Great shorter hike. |
