Comments
Comments: Needed the Boundary Trail for trail tracing, so decided to make it into a nice trip up to the clearing on Jefferson (just before the Link). Jefferson Notch Rd. was super quiet, as we think the snow machine trails are currently closed until there is more snow. We started the day in snowshoes, as conditions have been so variable, but dumped them about .3 mi up the Jewell Trail [risky!] and my husband went to micro spikes and I popped on my Hillsounds. This was pretty much an excellent choice the rest of the way. Caps Ridge is a bit of everything -we didn't really need snow shoes, but would very intermittently posthole a small amount. Closer to the clearing the snow gets deeper and snowshoes could have been handy -but not really worth it for such a short distance -spikes really were fine. Temps were amazing for February and we didn't need to duck into the woods to have lunch. Did see a helicopter circling Washington -hope nothing serious. Besides our pups we only saw a couple of fellows right at the beginning of the Jewell Trail -super nice hike.
