Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Not many legal spaces in Lafayette Campground - maybe 10-12. Ignoring the no parking signs seemed to go unpunished. Easier to park across the road in Lafayette East and walk over using the tunnel. Watch for snowmobiles in the campground as the trail runs right through - nothing like breathing in the two-stroke fumes after a strenuous hike!

Comments
Comments: Winter trail conditions don't get much better than they were today. We used the Hillsound trail spikes for the little bit of extra traction the longer spikes give and they were perfect. Katoola's would work too, but we were glad to have the Hillsounds on today. We went up Hi Cannon which had a few ice bulges and spots where water flowed out over boulders but nothing sketchy or challenging. KRT is perfect all the way to the Tram. We went in to the 4080 Cafe for a hot chocolate and second breakfast. When we walked in the smell of fresh-baked cinnamon buns was overpowering and lot's of people were eating them so we tried one. People, keep this a secret but oh man such deliciousness is rare on this earth! They are unbelievably good. Our plan to split one ended with the first bite! We started back down KRT on a sugar high, and headed over to the top of the Lonesome Lake trail. The nasty 200 foot steep icy section not far from the Hi Cannon junction was just that, but the trees are your friends and we made it down without too much trouble. It was the only bit of trail today that wasn't awesome. I don't think the crampons we left at home would have helped too much descending but definitely would have been welcome had we been going up. It's no place for snowshoes in either direction. The rest of the KRT to LLT was pretty much perfect. LLT down to the junction with Around Lonesome Lake trail had been butt-slid quite a bit but was still great. Even though it was warming down lower, the clouds kept the trails firm. We had lunch and some nice conversation at the hut, which was at capacity. After lunch we went across the Dodge Cutoff and back before descending LLT back to the car. Tomorrow should be another great day but 1-3" of new snow Tuesday might hide some ice before what is looking like a big dumpy Wednesday night and Thursday.
