The Greeley Ponds Trail is perfect, hard packed snow. Very fast conditions. Snowshoes not needed on this hike since everything is so hard packed. Heading up the steep section of the Mt. Osceola Trail to East Osceola, there are many icy patches. The snow is hard packed and smooth. There are many foot prints on the sides of the trail in the softer unpacked snow that were very helpful to bypass many sketchy areas. This trail is icy and steep, butt sliding not recommended…stopping is a problem! Sharp Hillsounds or crampons are needed for this trail. Heading over to Mt. Osceola, the trail is perfect. The Chimney Bypass and Bypass to the Bypass are easy and the hike up to Mt. Osceola is in good shape with just a couple patches of ice. Overall, it was a perfect day to bag these 2 peaks for our Winter 48. Conditions will be changing this week. |
