Comments
Comments: Thank you to Erik for yesterday’s report; his notes are exactly what I found today.
I am adding this report to comment on the track for both bushwhacks.

Black Pond bushwhack runs more northeast than it did last year, and it’s pretty terrific because you avoid a lot of those pointless ups and downs. It runs straight up the east side of one of the little brooks; I am looking forward to trying this route in the spring, with the hope that it is less muddy than the typical way.

Brutus bushwhack crosses the drainage before swinging northward and quickly recrossing it. This puts the initial steep ascent further southeast than last year and it runs right along the drainage. This is great because it has some boulders and trees to use for leverage. It then heads west and finishes the ascent at a lower elevation than last year, which is great because it’s not so steep.

Long story short (too late; sorry!) the current tracks for both bushwhacks are more straightforward and less difficult than last year. Yay!!

I wore light traction except for the Brutus descent; for that I wore full crampons. For most of you my plan is overkill but I like the solid feeling of the crampons and not having to butt-sled at all!

Stay safe!!
